Q&A: Is “The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo” a good Summer reading book?
Question by Phoebe Kiekhofer: Is “The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo” a good Summer reading book?
I’m going into ninth grade, and we are allowed to read a free choice book. Usually I can understand adult literature pretty well, but I’m not sure if I’d be allowed to read the book, as it is based around a murder. I think I might like the book, but my mom thinks I’m too young to read it.
Any thoughts?

If the movie is any indication, the book is very sexually graphic and violent. There are at least three very graphic rape scenes and several other are alluded to. I’m in my twenties and hardly prudish, and it made me extraordinarily uncomfortable. I don’t know if the book is any better, but the movie ran like one of the worse examples of violence porn I’ve watched in my life. You should be able to follow the plot, but it’s very squirm-worthy, so proceed with caution.
