For the past 10 years, a daylong ceremony has marked the arrival of the spring solstice at a tiny park, known as La Plaza Cultural, on the southwest corner of 9th Street and Avenue "C" of New York’s East Village. A group of local artists convene to create a fresh batch of "recycled art," consisting of metal cans, plastic bottles, and other discarded junk in the neighborhood — in the form of flowers and other abstract artistic creations.

The park itself occupies a space of approximately two-thirds of an acre, and it serves as a neighborhood garden, performance space, and cultural center for the local inhabitants. A giant willow tree dominates the center of the space, but there are bushes, flowers, paintings on the adjacent building walls, benches and chairs to read and relax, and a small playground for little kids.

I learned that in 2003, the park was renamed in honor of Armando Perez, an East Village Democratic leader who had been slain in Queens in the late 90s … but apparently everyone still calls it La Plaza Cultural … or just La Plaza.

I have to admit that all of this was news to me; I’ve never been to any of the previous springtime ceremonies, and had not even heard of the park. But I ventured down to this neighborhood a week earlier, to check out a local bar called Banjo Jim’s, where a local musician was scheduled to play later that night. I noticed the sign announcing the forthcoming celebration in the park, and decided to return the next day to see what it was like … and found the experience sufficiently interesting that I took a few hundred photographs.

In addition to the activities of the artists, and the wonderful "flower" creations themselves, I also had a chance to photograph a bride and groom, who appeared in a massive white Rolls Royce to take some wedding photos in the park. After that, I spent some time photographing people enjoying a pleasant Sunday brunch across the street, and then wandered up Avenue "C" — photographing things along the way — until I got to 14th Street, where I took a bus across town, and then the subway back home.

This is, of course, just one of dozens — maybe hundreds — of little vignettes that one can find while wandering around New York City. I’ve spent only a little bit of time in the East Village during my several decades in the city, but I can see that there are lots of new spots left to explore…

In ancient times people used to live in tribal groups. Tribal allegiance was demonstrated by the wearing of certain clothes, colors and, of course tattoos. Many of these tribal tattoo designs still live on today. Although tribal tattoo designs can trace their origins back to early pre-history they are enjoying a big resurgence in popularity today.

Cultures from all over the world such as Hawaiian, Oriental, Eskimo and American Indians have practiced the art of tribal tattooing, and still o to this day.

Tribal designs come in many shapes and forms, but here are some of the more popular ones.

Sagittarius tribal Tattoos are in vogue. They are suitable for both men and women and In black or color. They look especially good on the lower back or upper arms.

Tribal rose tattoos. More popular with the ladies this one, but don’t be afraid guys to get one if you feel daring. Probably the most beautiful tribal designs, rose tattoos are complicated to ink and may require more than 1 sitting to finish.Popular locations are the upper arms, legs and lower backs.

My personal favourite is the Scorpion tattoo. Personally I really like the Scorpion tattoo. Color or black, it doesn’t matter, they look great wherever you have them inked.

A lower back tribal tattoo may not be a sign that you actually belong to that tribe any more, but it will certainly make you distinctive and unique if done well.

There are thousands of great tribal tattoos to choose from. Friends and family are great people to ask for advice as they know your personality, moods and habits and this can help you make the right choice of design.

A little bit of time spent researching the designs available will help you make a good choice and you will enjoy that lower back tribal tattoo for many years to come.

Lower Back Celebrity Tribal Tattoo Designs

Tattoos, of late, have become a style statement. Tribal tattoo designs have become popular, especially in the last 15 years or so. The tribal designs we see today have their origin in Borneo, Polynesia, the various Native American tribes, the Maoris, and the Celtic tribes. The Hawaiian tribal tattoos consist of geometric motifs, such as squares and rectangles, as well as animals. Sharks and lizards are popular Hawaiian tribal motifs.

 

Tribal tattoos are replete with unique designs that are tattooed on the shoulder, the armband, wrist, foot, forearm, lower back, and leg. The popular tribal designs are: star, frog, wolf, spider, eagle, butterfly, moon, and scorpion. The bull, heart, tiger, lady bug, and hummingbird are also great tattoo designs.

 

Tribal tattoo designs are normally not complicated, so you can design your own tattoo. Such tattoos normally use plenty of black ink and the advantage is that they fade less in comparison to other colors. Tribal designs have a great appeal visually, with their patterns interlocking beautifully, and are usually located on the upper arm, the back and the lower back. The lower back is a great place for women to get done small tribal designs.

 

The disadvantage of tribal designs is that the black ink does not lend itself to removal, and neither can you cover them up with different designs. However, these are very popular designs and are used by both men and women.

 

The military tattoos, with the logos of the various arms of the armed forces, are more popular with the serving personnel and with men, in general.

 

Egyptian tattoo designs have been taken from their ancient religious art. The ancient Egyptian priestesses and princesses were known to get tattoos designed on their bodies. Today, the famous Ankh is a much used tattoo design along with hieroglyphic based designs.

With celebrities, especially the women, taking to tattoos, they on the lower back have become very popular. They look sexy and are very stylish with jeans worn low on the hips. They lend themselves to a very cute and girly image. Thanks to the celebrities, mostly all the teens have a tattoo on their lower back. The reason why the lower back is a popular place to have a tattoo is that there is a lot of smooth space. Tribal tattoo designs look very attractive and can be either small in size or as big as you would like to have them.
